shuttle

Video Photo Info
Shuttle is a generative sculpture installed at the Red Sea International (RSI) Airport in the Tabuk Province, Saudi Arabia. Suspended in the Welcome Center, Shuttle offers a striking first impression for passengers arriving and departing. Its spiraling shape, made of ribbon-like LED screens, displays colorful patterns that move across the surface like threads on a loom. The flowing lines mimic the motion of a shuttle—the tool used to weave fabric—connecting the piece to the region’s textile traditions.

The artwork recalls Sadus, vibrant wool fabrics traditionally made by Bedouin women in the region. Recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage, this craft was a key reference for the piece. Shuttle reimagines this ancient art form using digital tools.

Inspired by the natural beauty of the Red Sea, Shuttle responds to the environment through live data feeds. Real-time information like temperature shapes the animation in subtle ways. The visuals shift constantly, drawing from the colors of the surrounding landscape.

To further deepen his understanding of this textile tradition, Canogar worked closely with Dr. Delayel Al-Qahtani, a specialist researcher in Sadu weaving.

The result is a constantly evolving artwork that blends tradition with technology.
