The Flume murals evoke a sense of how Data has become a lifeline for our cities, much like rivers helped populations flourish along their banks in the past. Studio Daniel Canogar custom-designed an algorithm that captured data connected to the San Diego region, including the San Diego River's water levels, local power supply and demand, the census, the city's demographics, average temperatures, precipitation, UV index, as well as information on recent earthquakes and the flow of traffic. Once all this information was gathered, the algorithm modeled the data into a liquid-like animation reminiscent of the topographic contours of a river. The resulting images reveal a multicolored and multilayered text-based abstraction.
