Latidos

Since time immemorial, the heart has been one of the great metaphors humanity has used to describe its reality. As a symbol of the pulse of life and the central organ of the human circulatory system, its energy, vitality, and rhythm have been employed to describe countless social, cultural, and natural phenomena. In domestic terms, the kitchen is often referred to as the "heart of the home"; the old town of a city is commonly described as the heart of the city. The artistic work Latidos (Heartbeats) invites us to envision the new headquarters of Farmaconsulting as a living organism with a pulse that feels and reacts to its surroundings.

Latidos is created with 17 interwoven LED screen strips situated on the large wall of the lobby of Farmaconsulting's headquarters. The sinuous forms of the screens emerge and disappear along the wall, evoking a system that circulates throughout the building beyond its visible epidermal surface. The animation that moves across the sculptural screens is a rhythmic generative abstraction that suggests a pumping motion driven by an imaginary heart.

Four webcams, strategically installed in the lobby, captures the movement of employees and visitors in front of the artwork; their presence creates an interference in the visual flow of the piece, triggering a sequence of expansive waves that resemble the pumping of hearts—one for each person. Latidos is an installation in which both employees and visitors bring the artwork, and the building itself, to life as a living organism concerned with the health and well-being of its clients and employees.
