Grove is a sculptural artwork that evokes a cluster of reeds emerging from the ground. The vertically climbing rods are comprised of thin LED screens that feature an abstract animation. The animation becomes alternatively displaced to one side or another on the rods, emerging and disappearing from the thin screens to create an optical effect of swaying motions triggered by wind.
The generative animation, responding in real time to Twitch’s In Real Life Streams, has the effect of folding, fanning, and wind, as it shifts between pure abstraction and fleeting figurative moments. The work explores the idea of capillarity, both in its visual structure and its connection to the digital network, suggesting digital roots that intertwine the organic and the technological. Inspired by Op-art and kinetic artists, Grove elicits vegetal patterns, neural connections, and the interconnectivity of thought, reflecting the fragility and dynamism of a world transformed by technology.
Merging the natural and the artificial, Grove calls to mind both the resilience of organic systems and the interconnectedness of digital culture.
