Blaze I

Video Photo Info

Blaze I is a generative artwork that explores the symbolic and historical resonance of fireplaces, using videos of fires that run continuously on different streaming platforms. Meant to be played on user’s screens, they provide an artificial sense of warmth in the digital age. Historically, the fireplace has served as a primal gathering point for storytelling, reflection, and social interaction. In the digital age, screens have become our contemporary fires: flickering surfaces we gather around to consume narratives, share experiences, and connect. Blaze I reinterprets this parallel, drawing a line from the ancestral fire to the endless stream of digital content that surrounds us today.

The piece evokes the warmth and intimacy associated with a campfire, while simultaneously highlighting its technological simulation. Formally, the sculpture resembles a collapsing industrial structure. Its fractured form reflects the dismantling of the industrial and the emergence of a new digital order. Simultaneously, it evokes the aesthetics of minimalist sculpture, recalling figures like Carl Andre or Walter De Maria.

Part relic, part screen, part ritual, Blaze I questions what it means to gather, connect, and find meaning in our contemporary, screen-based reality.
